18-year-old Rome suspect and other 18-year-old suspect charged in wake of high-speed chase in Oneida County

ONEIDA COUNTY- A high speed chase last Friday night has resulted in the arrest of two suspects.

It was just after 10:30 p.m. when a State Trooper was heading south on State Route 13 in Camden, NY.

According to investigators, the Trooper met a northbound Chevy Equinox. When they met, the State Police cruiser was struck with an object that was thrown from the passing vehicle.

Turns out it was a full canned beverage and it struck the rear driver side window.

The Trooper immediately whipped around and activated the emergency lights for a traffic stop, but the driver reportedly failed to comply and took-off through the village at high speeds.

State Police determined the driver accelerated nearly 75-mph through a marked 40-mph zone and 65-mph through a marked 30-mph zone.

The vehicle eventually stopped on Preston Street, where all occupants were detained.

Investigation revealed an 18-year-old male from Taberg, NY was responsible for hurling the can at the Trooper car. Meanwhile, police determined the driver was an 18-year-old female from Rome, NY.

The 18-year-old female was charged with:

  • Obstructing Governmental Administration in the 2nd Degree (Class A Misdemeanor).
  •  Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle in the 3rd Degree (Class A Misdemeanor).
  •  Reckless Driving (Misdemeanor).
  •  Additional Vehicle and Traffic Law violations.

The 18-year-old male was charged with:

  • Criminal Mischief in the 3rd Degree (Class E Felony).
  • Unlawful Possession of Alcohol Under 21 (Violation).
  • Littering on a Highway (Violation).

Both individuals were processed and released on appearance tickets. They are scheduled to appear in the Town of Camden Court on May 13, 2026, at 4:00 p.m.

Several additional occupants in the vehicle, including juveniles, were interviewed and released to guardians.

The investigation determined that the damage to the patrol vehicle exceeded $250. No injuries were reported.

The investigation remains ongoing.
