GOVERNOR’S OFFICE: Overdose deaths in New York have fallen approximately 45% since 2022

ALBANY, NY- With the recent observance of International Overdose Awareness Day, the office of New York Governor Kathy Hochul is announcing a very significant decline in overdose deaths statewide over the last four-years.

In fact, Governor Hochul says New York overdose deaths in general have dropped approximately 45% since 2022.

“The progress made in recent years shows that our historic investments in the fight against drug addiction are making a difference,” she said.

“As this deadly epidemic continues to impact every community, I’ll never stop fighting to protect New Yorkers and ensure we’re bringing lifesaving resources to communities in need.”

According to data compiled from the CDC, New York State has been on a positive path for reducing overdose deaths. This data shows how predicted overdose deaths in New York fell from more than 6,630 individuals (about 18 people each day) in 2022 to 3,775 individuals (about 10 people each day) in 2025.

This represents an approximately 45-percent decrease in the number of drug overdose deaths, according to the Governor’s Office.
