Hiker in Western Adirondacks assisted by emergency responders for exhaustion

HERKIMER COUNTY- A resident from the Mohawk Valley region received assistance from emergency responders after becoming exhausted while hiking late last month in the Western Adirondacks.

It was shortly before 5:00 p.m. on May 30 when emergency dispatch received a report of a hiker, who was navigating the Nicks Lake loop trail in the town of Webb (towards Remsen Falls) with a group of others. 

The hiker in question, a 52-year-old from Utica, NY, reportedly became overwhelmed with exhaustion and was unable to continue back to the campground, according to the New York State DEC and their weekly Forest Ranger Highlights.

Ranger Pelrah was joined by Lieutenant Bills, Rangers Piersma and Waligory, the Eagle Bay and Old Forge Fire Departments, Webb Police, and New York State Police.

Later on that evening sometime around 6:30 p.m., rescuers reached the exhausted hiker and provided them with food and water before securing them into a rescue litter and transporting them to an ATV and finally to an awaiting Old Forge Ambulance at the Bisby Road trail-head.

Resources were clear after 8:00 p.m.
