LOWVILLE- Properly disposing batteries. It has generally become more of an issue lately and Lewis County’s Solid Waste Department is reaching out to local folks with this reminder: If it has batteries, make sure they are removed before disposal at the Solid Waste Station.

Don’t forget, Lewis County Solid Waste Station has its own designated area for proper battery disposal.

If for some reason you remain confused over an item or battery, you are encouraged to stop by the Solid Waste Office and ask a staff member before disposal.

Within the last 30-days, Lewis County Solid Waste has experienced four battery related fires alone.

Officials say batteries have significant potential for fire risk when left in the general waste stream, or when discarded incorrectly.

Any questions can be forwarded to Lewis County Solid Waste at 315-376-5101.
