NYSP: Over 11,000 tickets issued statewide during 2026 Memorial Day Weekend enforcement crackdown

Over 11,000 tickets were issued statewide during this year’s Memorial Day Weekend law enforcement blitz.

During the campaign, which was partially funded by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee and, State Police (in partnership with local law enforcement agencies) utilized sobriety checkpoints, additional DWI patrols, and ticketed distracted drivers who used handheld electronic devices.

The campaign ran from May 22 - 25. Troopers arrested 211 people for DWI and investigated 693 crashes, with four fatal crashes reported.

Here in the Troop D Region, 35 people were arrested for drunken and or impaired driving; 258 were cited for speeding; 30 were cited for distracted driving; 152 tickets were issued for seat belt violations and 4 drivers were cited for failing to move over.

Including other violations, over 1,100 tickets were issued during the blitz in the Troop D region.

As part of the enforcement, Troopers targeted speeding and aggressive drivers across the state. Below is a sampling of the total tickets that were issued.

Speeding: 3,116

Distracted Driving: 338

Seatbelt violations: 1,742

Move Over Law: 249

During last year’s Memorial Day Weekend enforcement campaign, the State Police issued 12,062 total tickets and arrested 245 people for DWI.
