REPORT: Witness testimony re-commenced Monday in Alshaman attempted murder trial
UTICA- The attempted murder trial for Aaron Alshaman resumed on Monday with more witness testimony, specifically focusing on the former Oneida County Sheriff’s Deputy’s whereabouts when the home of his son’s mother’s folks was set ablaze in the spring of 2025.
According to the latest updates from WKTV, three police figures took the witness stand Monday, including Sheriff’s Lieutenant Christopher James Paravati, who was assigned to run a search on Alshaman’s whereabouts between 10:00 p.m. April 8 and 10:00 a.m. April 9; Sheriff’s Sergeant Nicholas Dean, who explained the body camera system and how it is designed to work; and finally Utica Police Sergeant Joshua Skibinski, who also testified about Alshaman’s whereabouts during the early hours of April 9.
In summary, the witnesses all mapped out Alshaman’s movements.
Particularly, the jury was informed that Alshaman’s patrol vehicle, which was numbered 460, stopped at a county DPW facility at 3:01 a.m. April 9, where patrol cars can be fueled up and washed.
This was only about an hour before the fire was set. Only a couple minutes after patrol cruiser 460 entered the DPW lot, it was observed in the employee lot as it pulled up to Alshaman’s personal truck before venturing towards West Utica.
About a half-hour later, the patrol vehicle was seen traveling down the 1100th block of Kellogg Avenue at a speed of about 10-mph. For context, witnesses clarified how the speed limit is 30-mph.
The patrol cruiser is spotted twice parking in a nearby abandoned church lot, including at 3:33 a.m. and 3:46 a.m. The fire started at 4:03 a.m. and the patrol vehicle began moving again at 4:08 a.m.
Witnesses remarked on what appeared to be a pair of duty boots that were pointed out in surveillance video, which originally showed a figure walking with what appears to be a gas can.
Witnesses on Monday said the figure matched Alshaman’s posture and build, though previous testimony from the trial clarified that Alshaman’s face could not be made out in the footage.
The trial continues on Tuesday with more witness testimony.
