ONEIDA COUNTY- No serious injuries were reported in the wake of a boating accident over the weekend on Oneida Lake.

It happened sometime around 2:00 p.m. Saturday near Sylvan Beach, NY.

According to Sheriff’s Investigators, Bradley T. Dougherty, 50, of Rome, NY was operating an 18-foot Stingray open-bow boat. While navigating back into the Erie Canal, police say he struck a pile of submerged rocks and became disabled.

With winds gusting upwards of 20-mph and two-to-four-foot waves, his boat was eventually pushed onto the rocky breakwater (between buoy 104 and the Eastern shoreline).

Members from Sylvan Beach Fire Department successfully rescued Dougherty from his grounded vessel before bringing him ashore.

After an evaluation by local EMS, Dougherty signed-off from any further medical treatment.

The grounded vessel was expected to be removed on Sunday.
