Boonville Police Chief Olney aimed to take new chief position in Whitesboro

BOONVILLE- It is confirmed - Village Police Chief Dave Olney is expected to soon take on a new Police Chief position for the village of Whitesboro, NY.

This development has been verified by Boonville Village Mayor, Judith Dellerba.

According to a separate publication via the Rome Sentinel, Whitesboro Mayor, Glenn Hopsicker, recently requested that a resolution be accepted to appoint Olney, a retired New York State Trooper, as new Chief of Police.

It is reported that a contract is being finalized that includes a 5-year work agreement. With that said, if Mr. Olney decided to vacate the position during that time frame, any remaining time left would go unpaid.

We asked Mayor Dellerba if the village has already commenced a search for a new police chief. In response, the Mayor said it’s not that easy. First, a letter of resignation is needed and so far as we are aware as of this publication, the village of Boonville has yet to receive that.

However as soon as Olney submits his resignation, Mayor Dellerba says that is when the village will have the green light to begin the search process of filling in a new police chief.

The mayor did say that she and Chief Olney have been in discussion about his career move.

Chief Olney took over the helm in Boonville starting in January, 2025.
