Carthage gets nearly $900,000 in grant funding to refurbish existing playground, erect brand-new splash pad

JEFFERSON COUNTY- The village of Carthage, NY will use nearly $900,000 worth of grant funding from the second round of New York’s Municipal Parks and Recreation Grant Program to refurbish the existing playground, while also constructing a new splash pad.

"These grants will help communities with a range of projects to encourage New Yorkers to ‘Get Offline, Get Outside’ and enjoy healthy, active recreation,” said Governor Kathy Hochul.

Funding for this program was provided by the $4.2 billion Clean Water, Clean Air and Green Jobs Environmental Bond Act. In this second round, $10 million was distributed to 20 different projects statewide.

New York voters approved the Environmental Bond Act in November, 2022.

This grant opportunity can fund up to 90% of the total eligible project costs and total grant awards are capped at $900,000 for each project.

More than half of the grant funding awarded benefits disadvantaged communities across New York significantly impacted by environmental changes.
