First meeting for Lewis County folks to share input on what to do with 25-miles of railroad corridor aimed at Lowville Fire Hall

LOWVILLE- Folks in Lewis County will have their first crack at giving ideas on what to do with 25-miles worth of railroad corridor.

According to officials, this first of several like meetings will be taking place on the evening of Wednesday, August 19, 2026 at the Lowville Fire Hall.

The meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m.

Last November, you may remember how the county sealed the purchase deal on the railroad tracks.

Plans include to convert the rails over to a public trail system, but some folks believe the rails should be preserved and enhanced to offer scenic train rides between Lowville and Croghan, an idea supported by a Facebook group called ‘Save the Lowville & Beaver River Railroad.’

The goal for these meetings is to provide opportunity for the public to share their thoughts and ideas.

This meeting is intended to be the first of many yet to come.
