Forestport Fire Chief issues warning in wake of brush fire that scorched about an acre of land

FORESTPORT- The Forestport Fire Chief is warning folks to be mindful of how dry it is after firefighters from three departments battled a brush fire Thursday that could have gotten out of hand.

It happened over on the Kincaid Road. Forestport was the primary responder, with mutual aid thanks to Otter Lake, Remsen and Woodgate Fire Departments.

Chief Mike Clover says the fire sparked from a recreational burn and scorched about an acre of land.

The fire spread very quickly and was only a few more minutes away from becoming much worse, Chief Clover emphasized.

The fire chief noted how dry the conditions are in the general Forestport area and communities nearby.

With that said, as of this report, the New York State DEC has listed normal conditions statewide.

That could very well change in the coming days ahead, especially since there does not appear to be any significant precipitation forecasted the next week ahead.
