Former Oneida County Sheriff’s Deputy convicted for attempted murder, arson will spend the next 25-years in prison

UTICA- The former Oneida County Sheriff’s Deputy convicted for trying to set the home of his son’s grand-folks on fire was sentenced Thursday morning in court.

According to the latest updates from WKTV, Aaron Alshaman will spend the next 25-years in prison on four counts of attempted murder.

He also received a 15-year sentence for arson, but that will run concurrently with the 25-years.

This summer, a jury condemned Alshaman for trying to burn down the home of his son’s mother’s parents on Kellogg Avenue in Utica, NY.

The incident occurred in the spring of 2025. Alshaman was on duty when he committed the act.

Through the trial, the jury was presented with all sorts of evidence, including the whereabouts of Alshaman’s patrol cruiser the night the fire occurred.
