LOWVILLE- Eric Virkler has resigned from his seat as the Lewis County Treasurer.

With the 2026 June Primary only days away (June 23), the County Board of Elections Office has confirmed that there will be an election for the position this fall for the four-year term.

Officials from the Clerk’s Office confirmed with us that because Mr. Virkler vacated his seat before the term was officially over, it has been deemed as a resignation, but as far as we have been informed, his departure was on good terms and was first revealed during a board meeting weeks ago.

Mr. Virkler’s last day as the Lewis County Treasurer was May 15 and the Deputy Treasurer, Taszden Newton, has taken over for the meantime.

The Board of Elections Office reports that both Lewis County Republican and Democratic Committees will select their candidate to represent their political parties, but it will not be until after the June Primary election.
