NYS DEC: Forest Rangers assist in rescuing hikers and a camper in Western Adirondacks

INLET & WEBB- Forest Rangers have been busy lately in the Western Adirondacks with assisting lost and injured folks out in the wilderness.

In the town of Inlet on August 18, Forest Ranger Hanno assisted with finding a group of lost hikers on Black Bear Mountain.

DEC officials say the hikers somehow wound up on Bug Lake Trail and needed help getting back to Black Bear Mountain Trailhead.

The search began shortly after 7:30 p.m. that evening and the hikers were safely escorted out of the woods shortly before 9:30 p.m.

Then during the afternoon hours on August 22, Forest Rangers responded to a pair of incidents in the town of Webb, including Stillwater Reservoir, where a 71-year-old camper was suffering from severe hip pain after tripping over a root while setting up their camp site.

The camper managed to crawl to their boat and make it to the boat launch, where Assistant Forest Ranger Wolff provided ice for the injury.

The victim was loaded into an Old Forge Ambulance.

Finally, later that same afternoon, Forest Rangers Maxwell, Quinn, Stone, and Waligory responded to a call for a hiker with an unstable ankle injury approximately halfway up the Bald Mountain trail.

Old Forge Fire Department arrived first and packaged the 67-year-old from Texas.

Rangers assisted firefighters, Old Forge EMS, and Inlet Police with the carryout to an Old Forge Ambulance.
