NYSP: Nearly 42,000 tickets issued during latest enforcement crackdown week in April

Nearly 42,000 tickets were issued by law enforcement statewide last month during one of the latest impaired driving crackdowns.

According to officials, the enforcement campaign is just one of several initiatives GTSC funds to prevent traffic deaths and injuries on New York’s roads.

“Impaired driving is a choice, a poor choice that results in numerous tragedies each year,” said New York State Police Superintendent Steven G. James.

The enforcement campaign ran from April 13 through April 20.

During the blitz, police officers issued over 1,300 tickets for impaired driving, along with 1,779 more tickets for distracted driving.

Over 8,000 drivers were cited for speeding during the campaign and police issued nearly 29,000 other violations.

Other impaired driving campaigns occur around St. Patrick’s Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving and periods of time from August to September and December to January.
