Shoplifting investigation at Rome Walmart results in arrest of area resident

ROME- A shoplifting investigation at a local retailer outlet has resulted in the arrest of a local resident.

On Monday, the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of Shania Leonard, 29, of Verona, NY for one felony count of burglary in the third-degree; one misdemeanor count of petit larceny and one violation of trespass.

It was shortly before 10:00 p.m. Sunday when Sheriff’s Deputies responded to Walmart for a shoplifting complaint.

Figures from Walmart Loss Prevention team alleged that Leonard had been shoplifting from inside the store. It is also reported that Leonard had been banned from entering all Walmart stores.

At press time, police said that Leonard was processed and taken in to the correctional facility to await CAP Court proceedings.

There were no further details provided.
