Over 11,000 tickets were issued across New York during this year’s Labor Day weekend law enforcement crackdown.

The campaign ran from last Friday through Labor Day, where both state and local law enforcement focused on catching aggressive, distracted and impaired drivers.

This year, Troopers arrested 253 people suspected of intoxicated driving. Out of 632 total crashes reported during the special enforcement period, five of them turned out to be fatal.

Here in our local Troop D region, police arrested 31 suspects for alleged DWI; issued 283 speeding tickets; issued 27 citations for distracted driving; issued 71 tickets for seatbelt violations and another 6 tickets issued to drivers who failed to move over.

During last year’s Labor Day weekend enforcement campaign, police issued nearly 10,000 total tickets and arrested 225 people for DWI.
