STATE POLICE: UTV driver pronounced deceased after striking tree in Lewis County

TURIN- A UTV accident in Lewis County over the weekend resulted in a fatality.

It happened sometime around 8:45 p.m. Saturday on the MacKay Road, town of Turin.

Dispatchers received reports of a UTV crash.

According to an investigation by the New York State Police, Ryan C. Voorhies, 42, of Blossvale, NY was operating a UTV southbound when he went off the west shoulder of the roadway and struck a tree.

Medical personnel who responded to the crash scene pronounced Voorhies deceased.

A passenger, Michael F. Fatiuk Jr., 22, of Vernon, NY, sustained serious injuries and was transported by helicopter to SUNY Upstate Medical University.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The New York State Police were assisted at the scene by Turin Ambulance and Lewis County Sheriff's Office.
