Truck destroyed in Lowville garage fire Sunday

LOWVILLE- A garage fire Sunday evening destroyed a truck and may have sparked from a work light being left on accidentally or otherwise malfunctioned from an electrical issue.

Lowville Fire Department was called out shortly after 8:30 p.m. to 5607 Water Street.

A neighbor reportedly smelled smoke and called 9-1-1 after they witnessed smoke coming from the garage.

The property is owned by Dave and Jessica Hosler.

According to Fire Chief Joe Austin, it took firefighters about ten-minutes to get the blaze under control. Crews spent another 45-miunutes executing overhaul operations.

Though there was minor structural damage to the garage, emergency officials said a truck was completely destroyed and there was severe smoke, heat and water damage reported to other garage contents.

The property is insured and there were no injuries reported. A cause in under investigation, however; Chief Austin says the fire may have started from a work light being left on accidentally inside the truck cab, or some sort of malfunction that caused an electrical failure.
