UPDATE: Deceased inmate at Oneida County Correctional Facility was from Rome, authorities confirm

ORISKANY- The name of the deceased inmate, who was discovered on Sunday at the Oneida County Correctional Facility, has been identified, according to investigators.

The Sheriff’s Office says Adam L. Mason, 46, of Rome, NY was found unresponsive in his cell.

Staff members at the jail attempted life saving measures before Mason was taken to Wynn Hospital, where he was formally pronounced deceased.

The Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office is handling the autopsy and results are still pending, police said at press time.

As previously stated, New York’s Commission of Corrections and the Attorney General’s Office are both handling their own independent investigations into this matter, as required by state law whenever someone dies while in custody of any police or peace officer in New York.
