UPDATE: NWS confirms Lewis County tornado and microbursts in Tuesday line of storms

LEWIS COUNTY- The National Weather Service has confirmed an EF-1 tornado that touched down Tuesday afternoon during a line of severe thunderstorms that blasted through the area.

With an estimated wind peak of 100-mph, the NWS says this tornado touched down around 2:00 p.m. between Croghan and Castorland, NY areas.

The tornado had a maximum width of 150-yards and traveled over a half-mile – twisting up trees and tangling power lines.

Meanwhile, there were separate microbursts that erupted from that front – impacting other portions of Lewis County, including storm damage in Denmark and in the Glenfield, NY area, where the storm survey team witnessed a tin roof that had been partially ripped up from a home.

In those storms, NWS officials estimated winds that peaked out over 90-mph.
