Another wild animal tests positive for rabies in Lewis County, this time in town of Leyden

LEWIS COUNTY- Another wild animal has tested positive for rabies in Lewis County.

This time, it was a Skunk in the town of Leyden, with the test samples confirmed by New York’s Department of Health, according to Lewis County Public Health.

A domesticated animal was exposed to the rabid skunk, but was vaccinated. With that said, the pet was still given a rabies booster dose.

Just recently, two pets were exposed to a rabid Raccoon in the town of Watson and they required rabies boosters.

Reiterating their previous pleas with local pet owners, Lewis County Public Health is stressing the importance of keeping your pets up to date with their required rabies vaccines and boosters.

Rabies is a deadly disease that can be transmitted from infected animals, including to humans, through a bite or a scratch.
