NEW HARTFORD- A local resident from Herkimer County, who was accused of DWI late Friday night, is also charged for allegedly possessing a ghost firearm.
Shortly before 11:00 p.m., Sheriff’s Deputies stopped a 2015 Dodge Ram on State Route 840 after witnessing the driver, identified as Hannah Coffin, 26, of Poland, NY commit several vehicle and traffic law violations.
During the traffic stop, it is reported that deputies suspected impairment. Field sobriety tests led to Coffin’s arrest and upon further investigation, Deputies located and seized an illegal AR-15 style rifle. Police said the firearm was un-serialized, making it a “ghost gun.”
Coffin was taken back to the Sheriff’s Office, where she was formally charged with DWI and other traffic infractions.
Patrols also charged Coffin with a misdemeanor of criminally possessing a weapon in the fourth-degree, since the frame/receiver on the rifle did not have a serial number and another felony count of criminally possessing a weapon in the third-degree (possession of an assault weapon), since the rifle had a detachable magazine and several other assault rifle components.
After processing, Coffin was held for arraignment at CAP Court where bail was set at $5,000 cash, $10,000 bond.
Coffin is scheduled to appear in New Hartford Town Court at a later date.
