Local law enforcement gearing up for Labor Day Weekend traffic campaign

It’s almost time for the kids to be back in school and that means Labor Day weekend is drawing closer.

With families preparing for one more Summer hoorah, the New York State Police is getting ready to team up with local law enforcement for the annual Labor Day weekend traffic crackdown.

“While we want everyone to enjoy this time, we want them to do so responsibly,” said New York State Police Superintendent, Steven G. James.

This effort coincides with the national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign, which kicked-off on August 19 and runs through Labor Day, September.

During last year’s campaign, law enforcement officers statewide issued 131,245 tickets, including 4,125 arrests for impaired driving and 24,905 citations for speeding.

State Police and local law enforcement agencies will conduct sobriety checkpoints and increase patrols during the enforcement period.
