North Country suspect arrested in wake of domestic dispute where infant was dropped onto the ground

WEST CARTHAGE- A North Country area resident is faced with a pair of accusations that stem from a domestic dispute over the weekend in Jefferson County, where authorities say an infant was dropped onto the ground.

It happened sometime shortly before 4:30 a.m. Saturday on South Jefferson Street. State Police said they were dispatched to the scene of a domestic incident.

According to investigators, Jonathan Colon Quezada, 32, of Carthage, NY has been arrested on one misdemeanor count each of assault in the third-degree and endangering the welfare of a child.

Troopers determined that Colon Quezada and a female victim were involved in a verbal argument that escalated into a physical altercation.

During the incident, police found out the female victim was holding a 2-month-old female infant. During the fight, the infant fell from the woman’s arms and onto the ground.

It is alleged that Colon Quezada caused physical injury to the female victim after striking her several times.

Fortunately, State Police officials said the infant did not appear to suffer from any injuries after being evaluated by medical personnel at Carthage Area Hospital.

The female victim was also treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Colon Quezada was subsequently arraigned and released.

Charges are returnable to Champion Town Court at a later date.
