
WATERTOWN- A North Country woman is accused of utilizing over $12,000 worth of SNAP benefits fraudulently.
Claudia Dommell, 51, of Carthage, NY has been formally charged by the Watertown City Police on counts of falsifying business records in the first-degree, grand larceny and welfare fraud in the third-degrees, and the misuse of food stamp benefits (w/values exceeding $3,000).
Police allege that Dommell submitted a total of four written applications for SNAP to the Jefferson County DSS between December, 2023 and May, 2025.
Specifically, police say Dommell’s applications contained false or omitted information about her household income.
As a result, investigators concluded that Dommell received $12,123 in SNAP that she was not entitled to.
