REPORT: Jefferson County Jail inmate tried to use fake medical emergency in escape attempt

WATERTOWN- An inmate at the Jefferson County Jail faces a variety of charges filed after allegedly using a fake medical emergency to try and escape.

Brooklynn Batsford, 23, stands accused of one felony count each of attempted criminal possession of a weapon in the second-degree and attempted robbery in the third-degree, along with one misdemeanor count each of attempted escape in the second-degree and obstruction of governmental administration in the second-degree.

In the latest updates from WWNY-TV, Batsford was taken to from the jail to Samaritan Medical Center on August 15.

She was escorted by a male and female correction officer.

While at the hospital, Batsford reportedly requested a bathroom visit, to which she was accompanied by the female CO and by another Samaritan staff member.

Reports suggest that Batsford used this opportunity to attack the CO and tried to get a hold of her weapon. For context, the shackles on Batsford’s waist were temporarily separated from her wrists for the bathroom visit.

During the tussle, the male CO came to assist and ultimately gained control of Batsford before she was re-handcuffed.

It is reported that Batsford admitted that she used the medical emergency as an avenue for trying to escape.

She has been jailed while awaiting sentencing for other unrelated charges, however; following this fiasco, Batsford was arraigned on her new charges and her bail was set at $2,500.
