ROME PD: Robbery suspect arrested in wake of stabbing

ROME- An arrest has been made in the wake of a robbery and stabbing that happened this week.

According to police investigators, Joshua A. Campany, 31, is formally charged with robbery in the first-degree, assault in the second-degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the third-degree, menacing a police officer, menacing in the second-degree, and obstructing governmental administration in the second-degree.

It was just after 6:35 p.m. on Monday when Rome City Police responded to the One Stop Shop, located at 435 S. James Street, for a report of a robbery in progress.

Upon arrival, officers encountered Campany, who was brandishing a knife outside the business. Officers immediately gave several commands for Campany to drop the weapon, but he allegedly refused to comply.

Officers ultimately took him into custody following the deployment of a taser.

Officers then spoke with the victim, who reported that Campany had earlier entered the store and attempted to purchase merchandise.

However, his card was declined and then tried fleeing the store without paying for his merchandise.

The victim chased Campany outside, at which he chased the victim back into the store, where a confrontation ensued. During the altercation, police determined that Campany stabbed the victim in the right side of his chest.

The victim ended up suffering from what authorities described as a non-life-threatening injury.

Campany was transported to Rome Police Department headquarters and was held, pending arraignment in Rome City Court.
