Several fire departments battle Croghan area house blaze over the weekend

LEWIS COUNTY- A house fire in Northern Lewis County over the weekend prompted the response of several area fire departments.

It happened sometime shortly before 10:00 a.m. Saturday in the town of Croghan. It happened at an address on the Lumbley Road and Natural Bridge was the primary department on scene.

Members from Carthage, Castorland, Deferiet, Great Bend, Felts Mills, North Pole and West Carthage Fire Departments all responded for mutual aid.

Firefighters worked for the better part of an hour before the flames were under control.

Though the family was not home when the fire sparked, emergency responders did confirm that three dogs have died as a result of the incident.

A cause remains under investigation.

Members from the New York State Police, Lewis County Sheriff’s Office and West Carthage Ambulance all assisted.
