JEFFERSON COUNTY- A single fatality has been reported in the wake of a vehicle v. pedestrian accident early Tuesday in the town of Champion.

Reports suggest it happened sometime around 5:00 a.m. on State Route 126 in the town of Champion, near Conroy Drive.

A preliminary State Police investigation determined that a 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander operated by Jeramie J. Palladino, 53, of Carthage, NY, was traveling eastbound on State Route 126 when it struck a pedestrian who was traveling eastbound on foot.

The pedestrian, a 45-year-old male from Watertown, NY, was believed to have been in the roadway and wearing dark clothing at the time of the crash.

The pedestrian was determined to be deceased shortly after the collision.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash remains ongoing.

State Police were assisted at the scene by the West Carthage Fire Department, Carthage Area Rescue, and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
